Project Green

One hundred and twenty-five years of Harrow Bowls Club

1902 2027
IAbout the Film

A story worth telling.

In 1902, as the Metropolitan Railway was reshaping the fields of Harrow into a modern suburb, a small group of neighbours laid out a bowling green and converted a shed into their first pavilion. From that quiet beginning, a club grew — one that would survive two world wars, produce an England international, and remain a fixture of community life for more than twelve decades.

Project Green is a feature-length documentary celebrating the 125th anniversary of Harrow Bowls Club. It traces the Club's history from its founding by Thomas Dell, through the golden years of the 1920s, the disruptions of war, and the steady evolution of the modern Club we know today. It is, above all, a film about people: the members past and present whose loyalty, friendship and quiet dedication have kept the green rolling for a century and a quarter.

IIWhy Now

Because some things deserve to be remembered.

A 125-year milestone is rare. It marks not just longevity, but continuity — the unbroken passing of a place, a sport and a community from one generation to the next. This is the moment to capture the voices, the faces and the stories of the people who carry that legacy now, before time moves on.

The film is being made by the Club, for the Club — and for the wider Harrow community, future members, and anyone who cares about the small institutions that hold a town together. Its purpose is threefold: to honour the founders, to recognise the present membership, and to leave a lasting record for those who come next.

IVWhat We're Filming

If you're at the Club, you might be in it.

Filming is taking place across the 2026 and 2027 seasons and will include matches, social events, interviews with members and general activity around the green and clubhouse. Our aim is to capture the Club as it actually is — rolled up sleeves, banter at the bar, concentration on the rink — alongside the more formal interviews and archive material.
