The oldest bowls club in Harrow — and one of the friendliest.

Tucked into Harrow Recreation Ground, our green has been the home of friendly competition, easy companionship and a great deal of laughter since 1902. Whether you're an experienced player or have never thrown a bowl in your life, you'll find a warm reception and people happy to show you the ropes.

We're keen to recruit new members, both playing and non-playing. Don't worry if you're brand new to the game — our two qualified coaches provide free tuition, and beginners often tell us how welcomed they felt from their very first roll-up. Come along, give it a try, see what you think.

There's something happening at the Club most days of the week, from gentle roll-ups to the full club fixture list. Members come for the bowls and stay for the company — and there's plenty of room for both.

IIINew to Bowls?

Gentle exercise, great company, free coaching.

If you've ever wondered whether bowls might be for you, the answer is almost certainly yes. New bowlers take a short coaching course of four sessions to see whether they enjoy the game — and most discover that they do.

Absolute beginners welcome.

No experience is necessary. All equipment is provided. Just bring flat-soled shoes (trainers will do) to wear on the green.

Our two qualified, friendly coaches — Jeanette and Liz — would be delighted to introduce you to the game. Husbands, wives and partners of playing members are also warmly welcome to join as Social Members.

Pop down to Harrow Recreation Ground, meet the members, have a go on the green, and stay for a drink. No commitment, no experience needed — just bring flat-soled shoes if you fancy a roll. Bowls provided.

IVOur Story

Founded in 1902, still rolling.

Founded by Thomas Dell, a retired jeweller and watchmaker from Harrow on the Hill, the Club was originally Harrow Bowls and Croquet Club. The croquet section was wound up in 1912 as bowls took over completely, and we've been one of the founding clubs of the MCBA ever since.

125th Anniversary year

Tom Potts — a young Cheshire bowler who joined in 1915 — remains the greatest bowler in the Club's history. Seven-time singles champion, England international from 1922 to 1927, and MCBA President in 1925, he was due to be made President of the EBA in 1929 when he died at the age of 50, just before his inauguration.

The Green sits inside Harrow Recreation Ground, accessible from Roxborough Road. Walk past the playground — the Green is straight ahead.

Parking & Directions

From Harrow View, turn into Buckingham Road (opposite Radnor Road), then left into Salisbury Road. At the end go left and immediately right into Roxborough Road (HA1 1PB). The car park entrance is along on the right.

Otherwise, park in Beresford, Althorpe, Chandos or Grafton Roads. If parking on the road, enter the park opposite Chandos Road, turn right at the end of the path and walk about 200 yards. The Bowling Green is in front, slightly to the left.
